Zero Harm: Traceability

Traceability

The Group is committed to a traceable and sustainable supply chain. Our aim is to ensure 100% visibility of our supply chain and the progress in implementing our NDPE commitments via Crosscheck. This is an online traceability dashboard providing details of our global sourcing footprint, as well as our progress to resolve grievances within our supply chain.

Our operations in PNG and Solomon Islands are 100% traceable to plantations, and thus, our focus is now to achieve full traceability in our supply chain in Malaysia and Indonesia. In PNG and Solomon Islands, we source 100% of the FFB from our own RSPO-certified estates and smallholders in that region, all of whom have been certified by the RSPO since 2012. As of the third quarter of 2024, we achieved 100% traceability to plantation for SD Guthrie mills and overall traceability of 84.7% to plantation and 96.6% to mills.

We have set a target of achieving 100% overall traceability to mill and plantation. To enhance the credibility of our reporting, we engage third-party experts to verify all traceability data, ensuring that we maintain the highest standards of supply chain accountability and sustainability. Although we initially aimed for full traceability to SD Guthrie-owned mills, challenges remain, particularly with indirect suppliers in Malaysia. Despite these hurdles, we are committed to overcoming these obstacles by continuously improving our traceability systems and working closely with all stakeholders, including smallholders, to ensure sustainable practices are adopted throughout our operations.

We assess traceability to mills based on volumes supplied to each of our refineries and palm kernel crushers for the following categories:

  • Crude Palm Oil (CPO);
  • Palm Kernel (PK);
  • Crude Palm Kernel Oil (CPKO); and
  • Refined Palm Product.

A mill is deemed to be traceable if the information listed below is complete:

  • Parent Company name
  • Mill Name
  • RSPO certification status
  • Address
  • Longitude and latitude coordinates

Crosscheck
While our commitment to establish a fully traceable supply chain has been a priority, we also recognise the importance of making traceability accessible to everyone. This is why we developed Crosscheck, an online traceability dashboard that provides transparency of the location of the fruits and crude palm oil we process. With this level of transparency, we can identify where supply chains are linked to deforestation on the ground.

On Crosscheck, users can explore:

  • Our supply chains, from refineries to plantations and smallholders;
  • Profiles of our and third-party supplier mills, alongside Global Forest Watch's risk ratings and summaries of grievances, where relevant;
  • Forest, peat areas, and conservation projects within high carbon value landscapes.
