We are Listening to What our Palms are Telling us!

Our innovations in Precision Agriculture enable us to gain insights into our crops as if they were communicating directly with us.

By employing drone and satellite imaging technologies, rather than traditional GPS-based mapping methods, we can map our palm oil plantations with greater speed and accuracy.

This advancement enables us to address the specific needs of each palm at SD Guthrie. By understanding precisely where to focus our efforts, we can significantly enhance our operational effectiveness and efficiency.

Through the integration of aerial imaging and machine learning, the Palm Census provides a precise count of palms across plantation land, offering a comprehensive overview of their distribution. The Vitality Index complements this by analysing health indicators, detecting early signs of stress, disease, or nutrient deficiencies. This combination empowers plantation management to make informed decisions, optimise resource allocation, and implement timely interventions to maintain the health and productivity of the palms effectively.

The use of imaging, coupled with advanced analytics and AI-powered detection, enables precise identification of disease outbreaks and pest infestations across nurseries and estates. These technologies allow us to map affected areas with pinpoint accuracy, assess disease progression, and implement targeted treatments that minimize the overuse of pesticides. By focusing interventions on infected zones, precision agriculture not only reduces environmental impact but also protects the health of palms, ensuring sustainable and effective pest and disease management.

Rapidly generated aerial images, combined with data from drones and ground-based sensors, map the topography and provide high-resolution insights into water distribution patterns across estates. These tools enable precise identification of areas prone to waterlogging or drought, facilitating the design of optimized irrigation systems, canals, and drainage networks tailored to specific needs. Additionally, real-time monitoring of water usage and flow helps minimize wastage and supports sustainable water management practices, ensuring resources are utilized efficiently and effectively.

Precision agriculture enhances carbon counting by using technologies like sensors and satellite imagery to track emissions and improve soil carbon sequestration practices. It ensures compliance with the Regulation on Deforestation-free Products (EUDR), by monitoring land use with geolocation tools and detecting deforestation risks. Additionally, it facilitates accurate cross-checking by integrating data from multiple sources and analysing it with machine learning algorithms.
