We do not employ anyone under 18 for any type of work in all our operations. The importance of keeping children out of our fields is emphasised and communicated to everyone in our supply chain, including smallholders and contractors. We understand that the reasons children assist their families in farms are often socioeconomic, such as low household income and the lack of education.
To address some of the root causes, we ensure the following is implemented in our operations:
- Employment opportunities for both parents.
- Guaranteed national minimum wages.
- A decent standard of living for families, which includes providing food, water, housing, education, childcare, health care, and transportation.
- Schools and childcare facilities are provided for free. (see Education & Childcare)
- Community support through a communal living environment.
